simile and metaphors

Simile I enjoyed writing this poem because it was fun to try and come up with new sentences, though was hard when I used up most of them. Metaphors I liked writing this more than the similes, because I could come up with lots of different things. What I didn’t like was that

Life in an informal settlement

Life in an Informal Settlement  By: Ethan Living in an informal settlement is horrible. Though maybe one day I will be like the rest of the   world. Fancy cars, big houses, deep pools and even my own room with my own bed. Well, that’s what I hope. I don't know how far I will get now, with me dropping out of school, the reason being for that is that every day I would come home and open the cupboard and there would be no food or anything. I would starve like anything, and my mom wasn’t there to help me with my homework, because she was at work until eight o’clock at night, and my dad died, he had cancer. Every day I wake up, get out of bed trying not to wake my sister and brother up, we all sleep in the same bed. I then go to get my clothes out of my box and get dressed and go outside to take jog up the hill and back, I then get my younger siblings ready and go to catch the taxi to my grandmas house, well more like a shack, but it’s my happy place. She then gave me money for

The Singing Inspector

A Roaring voice by: Benny Defaulter (Ethan Ball) It was a normal day, well that's what I thought. It turned out that day would be a nightmare come true. It started like this, I arrived at school and had my normal subjects like I always do. Then we had singing class, when I got to the class I noticed there was a different teacher instead of Mr. John Wick. He had a massive sphere for a face that was as red as a tomato, he had odd stockings and had eyes like a car tyre, big and round. He also had bright yellow curly hair.  I asked him where our regular singing teacher was, but instead of an answer, I got a "Child, go and sit down and don't be so inquisitive." I was a bit shocked from his attitude, and just then I knew this was going to be the worst lesson ever, probably the worst of my school life.  When everyone was in the class he said to all of us, well pretty much yelled "Hello everyone my name is Raymond, but you will all call me Mr. R, I am your si

Grade 5, so far

When I first came to grade 5, I was a bit anxious because I thought there would be loads of work. As the weeks went by, I realized the work wasn't even nearly as hard as it was in grade 4, it was a lot, but not as hard. I think this is going to be a good year. Mr. Raven is a very awesome teacher, I think hes  the best teacher I've ever had. My favorite subject is Natural Science, I am loving learning about soil and the creatures that live in soil.  I heard that we were going to be having our tests, I thought it was a bit soon to have our tests in the year, but i'm glad their over now. I did do well though, I got over 80% in all the tests except for my Afrikaans test. I got 77% for that test, I think that is pretty good though considering I'm not very good at that subject We've had two outings so far, the one was to Blouberg Beach and the other one was to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Both of those outings were very fun. We also had a camp, we went to High
